Initially we learn to become aware of our habitual patterns of thinking, physical tension and mis-use that interferes with our whole system. These can cause pain or impede us from doing what we want. For example a compensation pattern for an injury long healed, now causes other issues or chronic stress showing up as fear of public speaking.

Through verbal and physical guidance, the teacher facilitates new experiences of ease, coordination and clarity of movement. We then learn how to inhibit the habits and replace the habits with new thinking and directions that allow the body to function as it was designed to do.

People choose to focus on a huge variety of things such as, injury prevention, pain relief, performance enhancement or simply to respond instead of react in stressful situation. The aim is to develop self-sufficiency and autonomy in applying the principles of the technique without the need for a teacher. To get the most out of sessions it is important to practice and apply these skills in the places you occupy most.
